Revisiting My Collection: Project Runway My Scene Barbie

Posted by thedollcafe at Saturday, October 10, 2015 2 comments
My Scene Project Runway Barbie (2006) is one of the most beautiful and most colorful My Scene dolls. Her outfit is based on the winning design from Project Runway Season Two's "Design an Outfit for Barbie Challenge."  The winner of the challenge, Nick Verreos, was honored by having his winning design marketed and sold as a My Scene Barbie exclusively at Toys R Us.

If you take a look at the picture of the model next to the Project Runway Barbie, you will see that the production doll is very similar to the model's outfit that Nick designed.  The headband even features the fun flower accent.  The sleek vibrant green halter part of the dress is well made and the flowing multi-colored skirt is layered in a style reminiscent of the Copacabana era.  Barbie even has adorable Gladiator type sandals in the same green color as the halter to compliment her look.

When this doll came out she was a Toys r Us Exclusive and proved very hard to find. I remember calling Toys r Us to see if they were out yet.  When I saw her IRL (in real life) I was shocked at how gorgeous she was.  The boxes that Barbies came in in those days the "cake box" made it easy to lift off the box and take better close-up pictures.  Since I got a new camera last year I've been going back and taking better pictures of my dolls.  I have posted a few more of the Project Runway My Scene Barbie on Flickr.  I hope you enjoy them.

She Said Yes!

After splitting on Valentine's Day 2004, Barbie and Ken announced today that Valentine's 2011 is the day they found love again! Ken's campaign has been nothing short of amazing! From the fabu Magnolia cupcakes to the billboard campaign to declaring his love in Times Square for all to see, how could Barbie say no?!? Of course she couldn't. These two were meant to be. I always knew they never stopped loving each other! To celebrate, Ken was on hand New York and in Los Angeles at the Grove to let Barbie and Ken fans pose with Ken and make it an all around happy day! Click here to watch a cute vid summarizing how they got back together! Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Barbie, Ken Wants You Back

Posted by thedollcafe at Sunday, January 30, 2011 1 comments
Although he's just about to hit the big 50, Ken is working hard these days to win Barbie back. The couple last spotted together in 2004 reunited last summer in Toy Story, and word has it that there may be a reconciliation! Ken has been taking out full page ads in major magazines asking his old flame to reconsider. Additionally, a new website lets you vote, maybe Barbie will listen to the fans? It's not an overwhelming yes, take a look! This week Magnolia Bakery helps Ken woo his favorite doll with the creation of the "Barbie" Cupcake: a classic vanilla or chocolate cupcake iced with Barbie's favorite shades of pink buttercream and sparkling sugar crystals, topped with a white chocolate heart inscribed with a special message from Ken. I couldn't resist and had to try these cupcakes myself. I know sweets are always a way to my heart! LOL! So, what do you think?  Should Barbie enjoy her single days or should she give Ken another chance?

There are some new giftsets available featuring Barbie and a matching girls size t-shirt. Some of the forum members have found these dolls overseas. Now they are available at the Barbie Collector shop for the great deal of 3 for $25. The total is just over $30 with shipping. Please use the Barbie Collector links here on this page to order them. The first pictures are courtesy of member sayako1975 . She obtained the dolls in this packaging with the t-shirts in the Asian market. The second packaging is the UK packaging. The picture is courtesy of forum member Pinkis4passion. I'm not sure what the US packaging looks like but I will post pictures if they become available.

This week we will feature pictures of dolls from the Barbie and the Diamond Castle collection. The Diamond Castle DVD feature Barbie and Teresa telling the fairy tale story of Liana and Alexa, best friends who shared everything including their love of music. One day their simple lives change when they are given an enchanted mirror and befriend the girl trapped inside! To save their new friend, Liana and Alexa embark on a dangerous journey to the hidden Diamond Castle that will put their friendship to the test. But through the power of song and with the companionship of two adorable puppies, the girls face their challenges together and learn that friendship is the true treasure.

I had the opportunity to take a few pictures of these dolls on my last visit to TRU. Today we feature the Kelly muse dolls. These Beautiful Kelly dolls, as mini muses, or muses in training, from the Diamond Castle, sit nobly atop matching glitter horses and sparkle in their shimmering gowns, with tiaras adorned in flowers. They are named Melody (blond), Dori (titian) and Phedra (brunette). They retail about 9.99.

Special Occasions Collection Barbie

Posted by thedollcafe at Saturday, August 02, 2008 1 comments
While at Tuesday Morning I picked up this Barbie. The back of the box reads, "Barbie doll and friends love to dress up and celebrate special occasions," so I call Barbie and the other dolls in party dresses the Special Occasions collection. I also got her for 7.99 which is really great considering she is a brand new Fashion Fever doll.

Here is a picture of the entire collection that also includes Summer and Teresa.

So Many Memories

Posted by thedollcafe at Wednesday, March 05, 2008 1 comments
One of the things that so many doll collectors share are the memories that a special doll brings. The 1969 TNT Barbie 1160 is one of those dolls for me.

Once I started collecting dolls again I always kept the special memories I had of my childhood dolls very close. This TNT Barbie was one of my first dolls. I always remember having this doll and taking her everywhere. I mean everywhere. She was really my best friend. She even travelled with me to South America when I was eight years old. She brought me a lot of comfort!

I recently obtained this doll again. I had seen many of her in doll shows and even on ebay but I could never find one with the right look. It's hard to find one with perfect hair. Actually, that doesn't really matter to me. I just can't tell you the feeling I had when I first held her. She was a little dirty and even smelled a tiny bit of mildew. That's ok. I gently washed her hair, her arms and legs and even her swimsuit. I made her mine again. It's like we were never apart. I am holding those memories close at this time. I have a lot more friends now and so many more memories, but they will never replace the thoughts and emotions of my childhood "best friend."
