Revisiting My Collection: Project Runway My Scene Barbie

Posted by thedollcafe at Saturday, October 10, 2015 2 comments
My Scene Project Runway Barbie (2006) is one of the most beautiful and most colorful My Scene dolls. Her outfit is based on the winning design from Project Runway Season Two's "Design an Outfit for Barbie Challenge."  The winner of the challenge, Nick Verreos, was honored by having his winning design marketed and sold as a My Scene Barbie exclusively at Toys R Us.

If you take a look at the picture of the model next to the Project Runway Barbie, you will see that the production doll is very similar to the model's outfit that Nick designed.  The headband even features the fun flower accent.  The sleek vibrant green halter part of the dress is well made and the flowing multi-colored skirt is layered in a style reminiscent of the Copacabana era.  Barbie even has adorable Gladiator type sandals in the same green color as the halter to compliment her look.

When this doll came out she was a Toys r Us Exclusive and proved very hard to find. I remember calling Toys r Us to see if they were out yet.  When I saw her IRL (in real life) I was shocked at how gorgeous she was.  The boxes that Barbies came in in those days the "cake box" made it easy to lift off the box and take better close-up pictures.  Since I got a new camera last year I've been going back and taking better pictures of my dolls.  I have posted a few more of the Project Runway My Scene Barbie on Flickr.  I hope you enjoy them.

Fashion Show Friends Assortment

Posted by thedollcafe at Wednesday, July 02, 2008 0 comments
I found an interesting item on Amazon. It's called Mattel Fashion Show Friends Assortment. It features a top model doll and a fashion rack of couture clothes. Wow, I wonder what this will look like. The description states: "Summer and Teresa dolls feature ready to wear and walk the runway style in their couture-designed fashion, plus a rolling rack of extra outfits and shoes to model fresh from the fall shows. " What is confusing is that it says this set is part of the Fashion Fever collection. It looks like it will not be available for two months or so but as soon as I find a picture I will post it.

Today's featured close-up is Chillin Out Madison from the My Scene Series from 2003. I really love the eyes on this doll. They have such an intense look. Too bad Mattel has phased out these dolls or made them very limited for the North American Market.

It's A New Month!

Posted by thedollcafe at Tuesday, April 01, 2008 3 comments
The fruits of my recent over-buying on ebay are trickling in. I was being so good and avoided over-buying but about a month ago ebay began calling to me in a big way. This evening I realized I was watching 68 items! At the time I should be spring cleaning, I should not be watching that many items. Bad me!

Head on over to BC.com for the new monthly calendar. This month features Campus Sweetheart. There is something just so beautiful about this doll. I am so tempted to buy her! Maybe she will go on sale or I'll find her cheaper at the Mattel Toy Store. I just love her packaging too.

I received some great news from Claudia over at Pink Ponytail. Speed Racer and My Melody have arrived. These are some great sets and I can't wait to receive them. I highly recommend Claudia for all your Barbie needs. If you buy from her, please tell her Sandra sent you!

Today's picture for the day is the now missing from the My Scene gang Nolee. This is Rebel Style Nolee. I miss walking into stores and buying My Scene dolls off the shelf. Sadly, they have virtually disappeared from major US toy retailers.

Armani, Yes!

Posted by thedollcafe at Sunday, March 16, 2008 2 comments
This week I've picked up a few dolls on Ebay that I've been wanting for a while. Today I managed to buy the Armani Barbie at a reasonable price. I know when I receive her she is going to be hard to de-box. But of course, I have plans for her . . . Now I'm stalking another doll that just didn't grab me when she came out. I've seen really nice pictures of her on the Barbie Collector Board and in the forum so I think I'll take the plunge. I'll post here if I nab her!

I've taken so many pictures the last several weekends that I still have tons I haven't posted. This one of Summer is one of them. So far, Summer remains in her original outfit. It's just so cute that I can't bring myself to redress her. I picked up the Street Sweet My Scene dolls and thought it would be cute to have them switch clothes with the four Hair Wear girls. I guess that's a good idea for a future photo shoot!
