Hervé Léger by Max Azria Barbie® Behind The Scenes

Posted by thedollcafe at Monday, September 30, 2013 0 comments
Will this Barbie be joining your collection? There have been photographs of her popping up on the net for months. She has now been released and will be available soon. I have not ordered her yet but I do hope to order her soon. She features the Louboutin face mold and a tiny red reproduction of the famous "Bandage" Hervé Léger dress. Also featured is the black harness and matching gladiator boots. The alternate look features a black-and white jacquard dress, open-toe booties.

I hope you enjoy this video featuring Barbie Designer Robert Best and Lubov Azria.

Can you Believe the Tokidoki Barbie Firestorm?

Wow, who could predict that Miss Tokidoki Barbie would cause such a firestorm! I'm sure you've read the articles and may have even seen the news reports on CNN and other outlets. I loved this doll from the moment I saw her pictures from Toy Fair. There is no way this is a child's Barbie doll and I'm not buying into all the articles and new stories that the media has picked up on. Now that Barbie Collector announced on 10/21/11 that this Barbie is really sold out she seems to have gone up in price considerably!  A few weeks ago I was able to meet the designer Simone Legno in Santa Monica, California. I hope you enjoy the pics!

Katrina Kaif Barbie Pics

Katrina Kaif Barbie by The Doll Cafe
Katrina Kaif Barbie , a photo by The Doll Cafe on Flickr.

I finally had the chance to take some pics of the Katrina Kaif I Can Be Barbie.  As Barbies go she is a regular playline belly button Barbie with the Lara/Drew face mold.  Her accessories include a female Oscar and a gold purse with matching gold jewelry that's a little nicer than most recent playline dolls.  It's too bad that playline dolls no longer feature this face mold.  The face mold gives her more of a collector doll look. I was hoping the doll would look more like the prototype that I posted about in my last post but this doll is very beautiful and she could easily be rebodied to a model muse body as the skin tone is the usual Barbie tan color that a lot of MM bodies come with!

Barbie goes Bollywood with the Katrina Kaif Barbie Doll

Posted by thedollcafe at Friday, August 26, 2011 2 comments

I have heard a lot about Katrina Kaif and her upcoming Barbie doll but I don't know much more about Katrina apart from the fact that she is an actress born in England who became a big Bollywood star!  I remember reading about the doll last fall and there were even prototype pictures available.  As you can see from the pics, the prototype is wearing an outfit similar to an outfit that Katrina Kaif modeled for Barbie's 50th Anniversary.  The doll was also a Model Muse doll.  It looks like Katrina Barbie went through some changes for the final product.  Now you can own her Barbie doll from the I Can Be series.  Barbie I Can Be a Movie Star, Katrina Kaif features the Barbie I Can Be a Movie Star packaging that is similar to the US Version.  Katrina Barbie also holds a female gold "Oscar" in her hand.  I was able to obtain one of these dolls from a friend in India.  I will post some pictures in my next blog post.

Barbie Basics 2.1 or 2.5?

The Metallic Basics are now available! We've seen several pics of them on ebay mostly from a foreign seller. These boxes are labeled 2.1! Today, Barbie Collector placed the collection for sale in their shop, for the nice price of $19.99 I might add, and listed them as 2.5. Well, 2.1 or 2.5 take a look at this Flickr stream with some great pics of two out of the three new Barbie Basics! Wow! What do you think of the body? Is it what you expected? I ordered my dolls today and ordered two of each of these dolls. I want one on the pivotal body and one on MM. I am waiting to get a second of Model No. 8 because I'm not sure if her skin tone will match any MM bodies I have. I know, I'm strange. LOL!

I saved a lot of money because of the sale that Barbie Collector currently has going.  I hope my dolls arrive soon!

Enjoy!

New Barbies Announced

Posted by thedollcafe at Sunday, February 13, 2011 3 comments
Toy Fair always brings amazing new Barbies to behold! Check out this amazing Tokioki Barbie. She uses the beloved Steffie mold and check out her amazing tattoo! Earlier this week Barbie Collector also posted pictures of the Barbie Basics 2.5. There is no Steffie doll, but that's ok. With this pink haired beauty I'll forgive whoever made the decision to leave Ms. Steffie out of Collection 2.5. I know I will be getting more than one of these beauties. Take a look at the amazing pictures. Her toe nails are black and look at those glittery peek toe pumps! Bravo! Take a look at the new Farrah packaging.  Other new collections include Barbie Art Collection, 2011 Holiday Dolls, and a new Couture Angel! Check out all the pics posted by MAW photo.  I see an amazing likeness of Rock Hudson and what looks like a Barbie Loves Elvis and Frank Sinatra set.  Enjoy!

Today I had the opportunity to attend the Women's Conference in Long Beach, California. Barbie Collector created this exclusive brunette Generations of Dreams doll signed by Robert Best to - benefit the Women's Conference charities. I think she is striking with her brunette hair. Here is a close-up.

Her outfit is from a playline Barbie and her shoes are from a Randall Craig tin pack. I hope their looks put you in a festive mood!

Model Muse Dolls In Your Future!

Posted by thedollcafe at Saturday, August 23, 2008 3 comments
Mattel has finally released a picture of the Hard Rock Cafe doll announced earlier this year. She will be available in the fall at the bc.com shop and at the Hard Rock Cafe stores and online shops. She is a gold label doll (produced in amounts limited to 25,000). She will retail for about $75.00. You can see a small picture here. HRC features the Mackie head mold, very pale skin and gothic style make-up. Her hair is platinum blonde with jet black bangs and streaks in a high ponytail. Her jewelry is silver-toned and and gold toned with gem-like accents. Her dress features spaghetti straps and is a Lolita style in black and a tartan plaid print. Her look is completed by red fishnets, black stiletto heeled-boots and matching plaid and black fingerless gloves. She also comes with a guitar. She is pretty racy for Mattel and I applaud them for stepping out and creating a doll that mirrors "hard rock." This doll was designed by Sharon Zuckerman.

2009 will see the release of the American Favorites Collection. One of the dolls in this collection is the Hershey Barbie. She is a model muse doll with the Lara/Drew face mold. Her make-up is vivid and smokey to go with the Chocolate theme. She has beautiful long brunette hair and a dress with silver and brown designs. Her belt reads "Hershey's" in the company logo. The dress has a bell shape to simulate a Hershey's chocolate kiss. She is very cute and will be released in 2009. Hopefully we'll see some sneaks of the actual doll at the Mattel Toy Fair. She is the creation of designer Linda Kyaw. Both of these girls are on my list!

New 2009 Dolls Announced

Posted by thedollcafe at Tuesday, August 12, 2008 3 comments
We interrupt our Barbie and The Diamond Castle coverage today to report on the new dolls announced by Mattel. They have announced the several new dolls in the Barbie Fashion Model Collection (Silkstone). What is interesting about the Silkstones for 2009 is that they will feature homages to vintage Barbies. There will also be an African American doll in the collection! There will also be a special 50th Anniversary doll designed by Robert Best. She will have a golden ball gown and is very regal. The My Favorite Barbie® Doll Collection will bring you the most beloved and iconic Barbies reproduced for her 50th anniversary. These dolls were designed by Bill Greening. The Dolls of the World Collection is back with four new offerings designed by Linda Kyaw. Other repro dolls to be produced will be Julia and Becky! That gift set features two extra outfits. A doll that was announced several months ago is the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Barbie. Photographs of her have finally been released. She has articulated arms and ballerina pointed feet. Finally for Model Muse lovers there is a set of 3 Corvette Barbie dolls with two straight arms and a Mackie face. There is a pink, yellow and red version with white painted on gloves. There are a few pictures and a lot more information at My Favorite Doll and Vogue 41.

I had the opportunity to see some of these dolls in the production stage several months ago. You will not be disappointed by the beauty and variety in the 2009 line! Go Barbie, 50 more very happy birthdays!

2008 Holiday Barbie

Posted by thedollcafe at Tuesday, August 05, 2008 0 comments

I received the 2008 Holiday Barbie as a gift so I won't need to wait until she's on sale at the Mattel Toy Store! She is the 20th Anniversary Holiday Barbie for Mattel and is also featured in the first Barbie Christmas DVD, Barbie in a Christmas Carol. She is so beautiful and detailed. I love so many things about her including her dress, side ponytail and the fact that she is Model Muse. I have seen her nude on ebay and am considering buying another one to redress! I do hope you can pick this one up. This Holiday doll was designed by Sharon Zuckerman.
