Oh, Mattel, why does this dolly not have a name? She is so cute, and yet she is only Shanghai Barbie's friend. Well, this friend is much more appealing to me than Miss Shanghai. I'm not sure if I'm getting a true picture of a girl in Shanghai but her presentation and accessories are almost like playline plus. These sets are somewhat reminiscent of the Fashion Week giftsets from 2005. I wish Mattel would produce more sets like this with a variety of dolls and accessories. Maybe it's a sign of things to come?

Say Hello to Shanghai
This week we will introduce three new Asian dolls to Mattel's current line. My Shanghai dolls finally arrived. The first is the blond Shanghai doll. She is a little unusual in that she has larger anime type eyes. This has proved to be somewhat of a turn-off for some collectors. The look of the doll and her accessories and placement are quite nice but she somehow does not match her "friend." I only learned which doll was the Shanghai doll when one of the forum members pointed out to me that the invoice was labeled Shanghai doll and Shanghai Friend. She is not sold out on Barbie Collector but you can also find her on ebay for a little more than the retail price. If you don't want to join the club just to get her it may be cheaper to find one on ebay. I'm still undecided about whether or not to de-box these girls. They are currently on display still in their boxes.

Shanghai Dolls Backordered Until August
I ordered the Shanghai dolls from Barbie Collector earlier today. With my $20 quarterly reward I got a pretty good deal on the set. I was hoping to use a code for an additional $10 off but it didn't seem to work. I'm really looking forward to the packaging on these dolls since they also come with an extra outfit on a mannequin. I hope they won't be too cute to de-box. I've been known to keep quite a few of my dolls NRFB! The dolls are set to ship around the middle of August. That will give me time organize my dolls a little more and to clear out some and work on selling them on ebay. There is currently a fixed price listing sale for 25 cents per item. This promotion begins today and ends on July 29th. I'll post a link once I start listing!
Here is the last of my Silkstones returned for shiny new ones. This is the Siren. I did not intend to de-box her but I did and enjoyed taking some nice pictures. Boy is her hair red. It is really quite striking!

Shanghai Dolls Available on Wednesday
The Shanghai dolls I wrote about here will be available for purchase on the Barbie Collector website starting Wednesday morning. You must be a member of the Barbie fan club to purchase these dolls in a set and there is a limit of one per customer. The retail price is $49.95. Barbie Collector's website reports that these dolls were created for a very special occasion and that there will be an announcement about that in the near future. Each comes with an additional fashion from their shopping spree (displayed on mannequins), and exquisitely detailed accessories. There will be 1,800 for purchase with the actual dolls being released overseas in the fall. I sure hope I'm able to get a set. Too bad there is a limit!
Today's close-up is another girl who has gone off to a far-far away land. When she returns her skin will be rejuvenated with a special glow, not yellowish at all. I miss you Miss HB!

Barbie Shanghai Dolls
Just announced today to Barbie Fan Club members is a special international release of "Barbie Shanghai Dolls." Planned for an international release later this fall, there will be 2,000 of these Barbies available to Barbie Fan Club members. There are two dolls featured and they are styled with shopping bags and a puppy dogs with doggy carriers. There is a blonde doll and a brunette doll and they appear to have the Goddess face mold. You should have received an email from Barbie Collector announcing these dolls if you are a fan club member. I will post more information as soon as it is available. It appears that these dolls are playline dolls and look like Fashion Fever dolls with belly button bodies.
The Barbie Collector shop is offering a discount on the purchase of two or more Dolls of the World. Now might be a great time to pick up Sumatra. Be sure to use the links here at the blog! She is also on sale at Toys R Us online for $13.98 in the U.S.
